COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  Learners will learn the processes and safety issues involved in usage of the various welding gases.

  Learner will develop the skills needed to weld.

  Learners will learn the basics of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  Learners will learn the basic set-up configurations of various welding equipment.

 LEARNER LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of this course, the Learner will be able to:

·         Identify quality welds that are the product of various welding techniques and gases

·         Understand how to operate the equipment in a manner that keeps the Learner and others in the immediate area safe

·         Successfully weld metals utilizing each of the four welding gases and techniques

·         Use the welding machines and welding equipment safely and proficiently

·         Select and use the correct filler rods and gases to weld steel

·         Select and use the correct filler rods and gases to weld aluminum

·         Select the correct machine settings to perform a quality weld with the machine(s) used

·         Select and correct gases, technique, and pressure settings to perform a quality weld

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT:

ü  Tactile Testing of Skills

 

MATERIAL/FACILITIES NEEDED:     

(Include the type or facilities needed, i.e., room, tables, supplies, books, tables, AV equipment, etc.)

Welding Booths with appropriate accessories and gases; PPE for Learners; Venting to Remove Gases; First Aid/Burn Kit in the Event of Injury

  COURSE OUTLINE:

Topics to be covered are: 

·         Course introduction, welding and general shop safety

·         Basic weld joints and positions

·         Measuring and cutting materials (Plasma Cutter)

·         Metal gas arc welding

·         Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – Steel

·         Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – Aluminum

·         Oxyfuel Welding and Oxyacetalene cutting.

·         Shielded Metal Arc Welding

COURSE AND FACULTY EVALUATION:

A.          An evaluation will be distributed to obtain the Learners’ reactions to the course and various aspects of instruction.

B.           The form will then be sent to the Office of Continuing Education for further study.
